Glorified by The Herald Times for his “golden sound with vibrant projection”, Stewart Rhodes is an accomplished trombonist and educator sliding along a musical path full of fellowship and creativity. Stewart Rhodes has performed in ensembles such as the Evansville Philharmonic, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and the UNT Wind Symphony. While at Indiana University, Mr. Rhodes had the privilege to travel to New York City and perform at Jazz at Lincoln Center with the New York Voices. In the summer months, Stewart Rhodes has been privileged to perform at various summer festivals including: The Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, The International Trombone Festival, The Third Coast Trombone Retreat, The Eastman Summer Music Clinic, and many more. Recently, Mr. Rhodes was a finalist for the Amarillo Symphony second trombone position.
Mr. Rhodes received his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from the accredited Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He currently pursues his Doctorate at the University of North Texas. Stewart Rhodes’s primary teachers include James McNair, M. Dee Stewart, Peter Ellefson, Denson Paul Pollard, and Natalie Mannix. He has additionally studied with Carl Lenthe, Steve Menard, Tony Baker, John Kitzman, and Joseph Alessi.
Currently serving as a private trombone instructor outside of school, Stewart Rhodes maintains an active studio of high school and middle school students across the DFW area. His students have garnered tremendous success in the TMEA All-Region, Area, and State competitions. Mr. Rhodes not only develops individuals to be competent musicians, but to be extraordinary human beings.
Stewart Rhodes regularly performs a wide spectrum of music with his trombone quartet, The Lone Star Quartet, at events across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The quartet is currently comprised of UNT doctoral trombonists determined to prove that trombone chamber music is entertaining and musically stimulating for all audiences.
